A Nation in Mourning and Reflection

At the time of this writing, we have experienced great tragedy in this country. It is a time to pause for thought and a great amount of prayer. We are the strongest nation in the world. But our strength does not make us invulnerable. We know that “where are hearts are, there are treasure will be.” Our hearts are not always turned to God. We do build our towers which can literally and symbolically be taken down.

How often have we heard the old saying, “Don’t put your eggs all in one basket.” Yet we have done just that by creating focal points in our country just waiting for attack.. Our financial well-being has become more important than our spiritual and moral well-being. When a body of people act from the heart, buildings which are destroyed will never destroy the spirituality of those people. Although the heart can be damaged, it can never be destroyed when it belongs to God.

The disaster that has taken place today symbolically and literally reveals that material things can in fact be destroyed, and with it, and most importantly, innocent life. These acts were not  religious acts. These were an act of terrorism. No God fearing person of any religion looks to destroy human life. We must be very careful not to project our anger on the religious beliefs of a nation because of the uneducated fanaticism of a choice few. But we must examine our towers and vulnerabilities to these bigotries and hate.

We examine very carefully the part we’ve played in contributing to the disregard to human life. We cannot by hypocrites. If we are to mourn the lives of those lost in the tragedy, we must be willing to mourn and protect all life in all its stages or we just perpetrate this disregard.. When we get to the point of qualifying lives as disposable, we find our selves in the same place as those who have qualified the lives of our citizens as disposable for their agendas.

As Christian people, we pray for the souls of those who died. We pray for those who were in the buildings which were attacked, especially those who may have taken their faith lightly and compromised their own values. We pray for those to who we should have witnessed to so that they would know God. We pray for ourselves for not making the message clear enough. We also pray for those whose heart were filled with sufficient evil to cause these disasters. We pray for ourselves, who have let ourselves become this vulnerable to evil. We examine the towers we’ve built.

We also pray to keep our minds clear and to act appropriately now. We pray that God will give us the wisdom to act in accordance to His will. We pray for our own purification during this trial that we may be wise. We pray for the conversion of all.

An article was written years ago in a small newspaper in Florida calls us to examine ourselves in light of our prosperity and value building. It was most prophetic and calls us to pull up our bootstraps and gather our values fr re-evaluation.

Boy! Imagine all those lives just taken from their homes... killed... attacked! They were completely helpless in their situation. Yet therwho would remove them from their environment. They were being torn from their environment, torn apart, blown to bits, tortured.

We as Americans always seem to come through for the helpless whose lives are encroached upon.  Yes, it seems that there is a war going on. But how are we doing? Are those who are threatened really safe in their home. Are those in "power" really going to be allowed to participate in the care of their lives? Is this really a political help? Is our vow to protect innocent lives being torn from their homes? Are we ready to speak up for those who abuse power over the existence of others. Can you answer honestly? Is it just politics?
